Gratitude Now!

Perhaps you’ve heard the almost humorous cry of the exasperated mom or coworker, “Serenity now!” Oh how I love the serenity prayer: “God help me to accept the things I can’t change, give me the strength to change the things I can, and grant me the wisdom to know the difference.” The woo woo world calls this the Law of Acceptance. Control freaks, I’m looking at you today. Maybe it’s time to grow up and let go? The world will not fall apart. Give yourself a break and let Jesus take the wheel. When you get to the point in life that this concept really connects with you, that’s when you know you’ve reached an enlightened level of personal and spiritual maturity. You can now take a deep breath and relax into the “It Is What It Is” peace of mind. Ahhh. This is a good place to be. So let’s build on it!

In America, we end November with thanksgiving and gratitude. I suspect that the average person really has no idea what a powerful time of year this truly is. Did you know that the emotional energies of genuine thanksgiving and gratefulness have strong creative power? You can harness this for yourself right now! I believe it’s no coincidence in Christian America, that the season of giving and receiving comes immediately after the holiday of gratitude. Gratitude precedes generosity. Gratitude precedes overflow and abundance. There was a teacher named Evelyn that I studied with in 2017 that said an interesting thing that stuck with me:

It sounds funny but I have found it to be true in my own life. When you liberally sprinkle the feeling of gratitude throughout every facet of your life as a daily habit, you will see any unpleasant circumstances turn around very quickly. Opportunities will materialize out of thin air, divine connections and coincidences will show up. The quickest way to turn your life around is to be genuinely thankful and grateful right where you are. We all have hundreds of things to give thanks for daily, regardless of any less-than-desirable circumstances that may be consuming our thoughts at any given moment.

Begin a gratitude practice as soon as you wake up, while you’re still in bed. When the day is over, think of new things you can be grateful for again before going to sleep. Can you commit to doing this daily for a week? How about for a month? (Are you an overachiever like me? Do a 3 minute gratitude exercise on your lunch break too!)

Serenity and gratitude go together. Employ them! These concepts are a magical formula for transforming your personal world. Tune in to the feeling of gratitude, physically feeling it in your body, in your heart-center….you will see your life transform!
